Notes from the barn — week of Sep 7, 2026

Four trade-startup guides, one workbook refresh, a measured rank snapshot and the moved SBA link our Saturday sweep caught and fixed.

Four new trade-startup guides and one product-page refresh went live at the barn this week, and every guide ships the actual break-even and pricing math instead of a vague checklist. Our Saturday test sweep also caught a moved government link on two guides, and we fixed it the same day.

What shipped this week?

Four guides, one product refresh. Saturday is audit day and Sunday is this note, so neither carries a new guide.

All four guides point to the same free contractor break-even calculator, because the question under every one of them is the same: how many jobs a month before you are actually paying yourself? The full catalogue is on the workbooks shelf.

Where do these pages rank so far?

Not in the top 100 on any term we measured this week. This week’s snapshot covered the four calculator terms that were last checked on Aug 30, so each one now has a second reading.

What did testing catch?

A moved government page. Two of our guides cited the U.S. Small Business Administration page on business licenses and permits, and that address had started redirecting to a new location. Saturday’s sweep flagged it, confirmed the new SBA page still says what our guides cite it for, and swapped the link on both guides. The same sweep fetched all 253 URLs in our sitemap and every one returned a clean 200.

What is next?

  • More startup guides in the queue: HVAC, roofing and plumbing.
  • The workbook label fix from last week’s note is still open; it belongs in the generator, not in hand edits.
  • The next rank snapshot rotates back to the terms these new guides target.
